Cracking the Code with the IPC

Coding education in schools can no longer be considered a unique competitive advantage. It must be understood as the minimum standard. - Melissa Sariffodeen, Co-founder and CEO of Ladies Learning Code

Melissa recently penned an article for Canada’s The Globe and Mail to announce a new Canada-wide initiative to develop a cohesive coding education strategy, highlighting the importance of equipping students with “the skills necessary to participate fully…in our increasingly digital world.” She writes that the country’s ability to prosper both socially and economically depend on it. Similar educational initiatives are in place in countries like Australia and Britain, where coding has already been introduced in primary schools a part of their respective national curriculums.

The IPC supports the development of these essential skills by including three computing-focused IPC units across our age ranges: Milepost 1 (5-7 years), Milepost 2 (7-9 years) and Milepost 3 (9-12 years). These are project-based units so they can be taught discretely as a series of computing lessons, or weaved throughout other thematic IPC units to support and enhance learning.

Our IPC computing writers are ICT specialists, who teach in IPC schools, and understand the challenges and opportunities that the computing curriculum provides for teachers.
