IPC schools get their voices heard on Listen To Us song

Many IPC member schools are taking part in an exciting learning experience - to master one of the vocal parts for a new song called Listen To Us.

Listen To Us is uniting young people around the world as part of the Voices Around The World project, which is now in its third year. This year, VATW has involved more than 1,400 national, independent and international schools, and culminated in the release of the Listen To Us CD later this month.
This year’s CD features the voices of more than 5,000 students from recordings that were made by schools in 48 different countries including Cambodia, Israel, Iceland, Brazil and Turkey.  All proceeds from the sales of this year’s CD plus a DVD will go to support schools in Tanzania that are in need of basic learning resources. IPC member schools that are featured on this year’s CD including Panaga School in Brunei, BEPS International School in Brussels, Nexus International School in Malaysia, Academia Britanica Cuscatleca in El Salvador, and St Simon & Judes Primary School in Bolton, England.

We have been a major supporter of the project since 2011, designing a unit specifically for VATW.  Our mini unit - aptly titled Listen to Us - is for children aged 5-12 years and covers the curriculum areas of society, history, music and international.
VATW is spearheaded by former music teacher and international school principal, Laurie Lewin, in collaboration with singer/songwriter Howard Jones. Laurie has travelled to many schools to support them with their rehearsals and recordings of Listen To Us, and to encourage students to think about the words they are singing. “Young people really want to make a difference,” he said.  “They want to work together for change.”

Visit the VATW website to find out more about the project, how to participate in the 2016, and how to order the CD! You can also connect with VATW on Facebook and Twitter.
