Identifying, Improving and Assessing Learning in the IPC (2 day course)

This 2 day course will be followed by a 1 day workshop of your choice.

Who is this course for?

This Developing Level course, for those who have some experience of using the IPC but have not yet started or fully implemented the Assessment for Learning (AfL) Programme, will explore the IPC Assessment for Learning process and practice, from its basis in the IPC Early Years Programme through to Milepost 3, focusing on how to make authentic use of A4L in supporting and developing learning.

By the end of the course you will:

  • Know more about the factors that affect learning in IPC classrooms
  • Know about new brain research and the implications for learning and classroom practice including the impact of learning environments
  • Know about the fundamental differences between assessing knowledge, skills and developing understanding
  • Know the key principles and practices of effective assessment
  • Know more about assessment and evaluation overall that supports and improves learning
  • Be able to identify whether learning is happening in classrooms
  • Be able to apply a range of strategies to improve learning in your classroom
  • Be able to assess the children’s learning using the IPC Assessment for Learning programme
  • Develop and deepen your understanding of the principles underpinning the IPC Assessment for Learning programme
  • Develop and reflect on your understanding of how effective assessment for learning can make enormous and positive differences to learning on a daily basis

 

Leading the IPC: A Course for IPC Coordinators (2 Day Course) 

This 2 day course will be followed by a 1 day workshop of your choice.

Who is this course for?

This course is for people who have or will have responsibility for leadership, coordination and management of the IPC in their school. Participants should:

  • Have some experiential knowledge of the IPC and/or…     
  • Have already been through a beginning level IPC course and/or…     
  • Be looking to lead the implementation of the IPC in their school and giving advice to colleagues on IPC related matters

By the end of the course you will:  

  • Know about the IPC 9 guiding principles in detail and how they drive your school’s implementation of the IPC     
  • Know about the process of ‘change’ and how to lead and manage it in your school
  • Be able to articulate key messages about how the IPC is being used to support learning in your school     
  • Be able to recognise some of the factors that may be a help or a hindrance when leading the IPC in your school     
  • Be able to lead colleagues in your school and explore practical ways of supporting them both in and out of the classroom     
  • Be able to reflect on the Self Review process and identify which areas for development are relevant for your school at this time     
  • Be able to consider how the development of the IPC fits in with your school improvement planning     
  • Be able to identify your next steps and put an action plan in place, which you can take back to your school     
  • Develop your understanding of the principles and practices underpinning the IPC     
  • Develop your understanding of what it means to be an IPC Leader for Learning
