Meet The IPC Writers



Mike Ward

Michael J. Ward is an experienced writer, editor and interactive designer, with over 14 years publishing experience in the education sector. Having worked in print, CD-ROM and online - including 8 years as Senior Editor of Child Education magazine – Michael has brought an exciting and creative vibe to his work with the IPC. When he isn’t beavering away on new units, Michael spends his time writing novels. He is the author and creator of the best-selling DestinyQuest series published by Gollancz/Orion Books.


Nina Filipek

Nina Filipek is an education writer of information books, teachers’ lesson plans and children’s home-learning titles. She started as a primary school teacher and has subsequently had over 20 years’ experience in children’s book publishing across an extensive range of topics for the UK’s leading publishers. For the IPC, she has written more than 50 units, including the latest science-based titles. Her particular strength is in finding effective and engaging new ways of inspiring children to explore the fascinating world we live in.


Sophie Wood

Sophie is the owner and director of ICTeach Ltd.  She founded the company in January 2011 after a two-year spell at Hackney City Learning Centre, where she trained to become an expert teacher and school consultant on all things digital. 

ICTeach specialises in offering expert advice to schools on ways of enriching the ICT curriculum using cutting edge digital technology.  Sophie is a qualified teacher (QTS) and has a background in teaching in inner city London Schools.  Prior to her career in teaching she spent 10 years working in the PR sector writing marketing material and liaising with the press.  She has a degree (BA Hons) in English Literature from Bristol University.  Sophie was born in Paris and speaks fluent French and good Italian.  She has 3 secondary aged children and lives in Central London.
