Welcome to St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Houston image 1

Welcome to St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Houston

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Houston, Texas, USA recently joined the IMYC community and has just enjoyed its first entry points into the IMYC big ideas. St. Stephen’s is the first independent school in the United States to be learning with the IMYC.

“We are impressed by the fact that the IMYC is based on current scientific research that focuses specifically on adolescents within the middle years range,” says Head of School, David Coe. “We also like the way the IMYC is structured and the fact that the curriculum is spelled out for us helping to make it easier to transition from what we were previously doing, to doing it in a similar way but also in a very different way. We like the way the entry point and all the activities are scaffolded and how everything feeds into a next step of learning within the theme. The unit approach is a good idea; the fact that it is broken down into shorter chunks of six weeks of learning which will keep the teachers and students working within a timeframe. And we like the interconnectedness of the subject areas and the fact that the IMYC is encouraging everyone to be more collaborative. In addition, the fact that we can make the IMYC relevant for our students and our school is really important.”

This term, the 7th grade students at St. Stephen’s are learning around the IMYC big idea of: ‘The ability to change, alter or cope with new environments or circumstances’ and 8th grade students are learning with the big idea that: ‘Every individual thing affects and is affected by other things.’  Wishing you all great success St. Stephen’s!
